Nicholas J. Ferraro, Esq. (Nick) is a labor and employment lawyer and founder of Ferraro Vega Employment Lawyers, formerly known as Ferraro Employment Law. He is based in San Diego, California. As a lawyer, Mr. Ferraro works every day to help others. He takes a principled and reasoned approach to advancing the interests of his clients and has been named a Rising Star by Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers rating service for three consecutive years, an honor awarded to less than 2.5 percent of lawyers under the age of 40. Mr. Ferraro started his firm with the belief that employees deserve the best possible legal representation when they find themselves in the unfortunate position of trying to collect wages they earned or recovering damages for a wrongful termination.
His practice focuses on wage and hour cases and employer misconduct issues. He represents employees who are terminated, demoted or treated unfairly as a result of discrimination, harassment or retaliation. He represents large groups of workers in class action lawsuits for unpaid wages, overtime, reimbursements, meal and rest periods, bonuses and other forms of remuneration and files civil enforcement claims to prosecute Labor Code violations and collect civil penalties on behalf of employees and the State of California.
Mr. Ferraro was born and raised in Trail, British Columbia – known as the “Silver City” for its mining history and the “Home of Champions” for its sports history – where he grew up skiing and playing hockey in the winter and playing baseball and going to the lake in the summer. He attended Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington on an academic scholarship and graduated cum laude. He previously served as Treasurer and Secretary of the Gonzaga Alumni Association in San Diego.
Mr. Ferraro attended the University of San Diego School of Law, where he was a member of the San Diego Law Review, an editor of California Business Practice, and a judicial extern for a federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
During law school, he also worked as a clerk in the law school library, as a research assistant for a renowned labor and employment law professor, as a law clerk at a employment and business litigation firm, and as a legal intern under the general counsel for a well known real estate company.
Through a series of summer jobs throughout high school and college, including working in the family cement business, Mr. Ferraro is a former member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the United Steelworkers, and the United Food and Commercial Workers.
Before founding Ferraro Employment Law, Mr. Ferraro was a defense lawyer in the labor and employment departments for the national law firms of Duane Morris and Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, where he represented Fortune 500 corporations and other companies in a wide range of complex labor and employment, business litigation, and class action matters. Mr. Ferraro now uses his skills and experience to exclusively represent employees in employment litigation.
Mr. Ferraro regularly writes and speaks on employment law issues, and has had his articles published in California Employment Law Letter, HR Daily Advisor, Lexology, Mondaq, and in client alerts and newsletters.
