Law Firm FAQ

How do I know if my case is worth pursuing?

The first order of business is to get a preliminary legal opinion from a qualified employment attorney who provides a free case consultation. We will let you know our thoughts about your potential case and advise you whether we can move forward with legal action on your behalf. If we determine you have a valid legal claim, but we are unable to handle for you, we will let you know and provide information so that you can find another employment lawyer who may be able to help. Please call (619) 693-7727 for more information.

Do I need to hire a lawyer?

For most legal matters, it is imperative that you have a labor lawyer to prosecute your case. There are some circumstances where we advise against hiring a lawyer due to the cost and expense relative to the size of your claim. For certain individuals, they may be able to successfully pursue their claim through the Labor Commissioner’s office or negotiate a higher severance payment themselves without retaining a lawyer on a contingency or hourly fee agreement. Please call (619) 693-7727 for more information.

How does your intake process work?

(1) Potential client completes intake form, calls office, or is referred. (2) We reply to the message, call back, or schedule a time to talk. (3) Our lawyers complete a preliminary and confidential case assessment free of charge (we never charge hourly fees). You will speak directly to one of our lawyers who is your point of contact. (4) We will review your files, complete our factual investigation, and make a determination about how to proceed. (5) If we take your case, we will enter into an Attorney-Client Fee Agreement. There are no costs and you pay nothing unless we recover money on your behalf. If we cannot take your case, we will inform you and provide information about your options and a directory of California employment attorneys you can contact for a second opinion. Please call (619) 693-7727 for more information.

Why did I receive a notice with your Firm’s name on it?

There are a number of different reasons why you may have received a notice with Ferraro Vega Employment Lawyer’s contact information on it:

  • Belaire-West Privacy Notice: You received this notice because you are a potential class member or aggrieved employee in a case we have filed against your current or former employer.  We asked that the Company provide the contact information for the group of affected employees, including you, and this notice was mailed to inform you and other employees of your privacy rights.  These notices are sent by a third party class action administrator.  You may contact us if you have any questions.
  • Class Notice: If you received a Class Notice in the mail with our Firm’s information, this means that your rights may be affected in a case that was recently filed or settled.  Notices often include information about the legal claims and factual allegations, how to participate, the estimated settlement payment, and information about upcoming hearings.  Importantly, these are court-approved notices and provide instructions about how to “opt-out” or exclude yourself from the case or settlement and how to object.  You may contact us if you have any questions.
  • Direct Correspondence: These are letters sent directly from Ferraro Vega Employment Lawyers regarding facts or information about a pending case concerning your current or former employment or legal rights.

What is a class action lawsuit?

A class action lawsuit is a specific type of lawsuit that allows an individual to serve as a “class representative” to file a lawsuit on behalf of numerous other people that have suffered the same alleged wrong. Class actions are one of the most powerful mechanisms for employees, consumers, and the public at large to affect positive change against large companies and institutions. Our lawyers focus on class actions involving the failure of employers to comply with California’s labor and wage and hour laws. Employment class actions are prevalent in California because we have so many companies and employees in the marketplace and laws that protect employees and their earned wages.
